2025 - Résonances art-science
Federating an art-science community at l’Université Paris-Saclay
«Do you still remember that late autumn or winter in your childhood when you first saw snow falling? It was like the irruption of another reality. Something fierce, rare, that comes to visit us, that bends and transforms the world around us, through no fault of our own, like an unexpected gift. Snow is literally the pure form of the manifestation of the unavailable: we cannot cause it to fall or dictate its arrival, not even plan it in advance with any certainty, at least not over the long term. What's more, we can't take control of the snow, we can't make it our own. When we pick it up, it slips through our fingers; when we bring it home, it melts; and if we put it in the freezer, it ceases to be snow. Perhaps that's why so many people long to see it fall... »
Hartmut Rosa
Rendre le monde indisponible (La Découverte, 2020)

This unavailability is inherent in every resonance we experience.
Whether in our relationship with nature, with other living beings, with a human creation, whether material or immaterial, or with a simple object, resonance is a mode of relationship that, according to the sociologist Hartmut Rosa, is determined by three moments: contact or affection when we are touched, touched or animated; personal effectiveness or the response we give when we express the emotions that animate us in return; assimilation or transformation when we tame or appropriate the relationship.
Like snow, the occurrence of such resonances cannot be willed and the resulting transformation cannot be predicted.
This is where we see art and science in resonance.
It is on this resonance that we are founding the Paris-Saclay Art-Science Chair.

The Art-Science Chair aims to turn the curiosity inherent in art and science into a new field of research that is both artistic and scientific.
The aim is to open up a new field of exploration and offer a concrete, experimental, relational, multicultural and multidisciplinary approach to artistic and scientific production, with the aim of imagining and developing in resonance a research, training and art-science culture that can make the world speak, inspire different communities and raise society's awareness.
On the way to this openness, the players at the intersection of art and science are brought together around art-science resonance axes where art-science works and projects are presented, exhibited, experimented with and discussed, and where art-science research can be tried and tested.

Résonances art-science
Résonances art-science was born of the need to create a space for connection and exchange between university laboratories, artists and scientific and cultural institutions, fostering an interdisciplinary dialogue that combines creativity, emotion and research. This approach not only strengthens relationships between different fields of knowledge, but also opens up new horizons of exploration, where art and science meet to offer fresh perspectives on the world.
The Résonances art-science project aims to bring together an art-science community within the Université Paris-Saclay and with external partners to imagine and develop research, training and cultural dissemination pathways to inspire different communities and raise awareness in society, and to adopt a concrete, experimental, relational, sustainable, multicultural and multidisciplinary approach to artistic and scientific production.

The axes of resonance
In 2025, four axes of resonance will be followed:
-
Bein in the cosmos
-
Being virtual
-
Being with nature
-
Being with the body
On each axis, we imagine :
-
exhibitions in the laboratories involved and at the premises of cultural and scientific partners;
-
coupling days (presentation of art-science works, workshops, performances, round tables, debates), encouraging exchanges and collaborations both at the Université Paris-Saclay in an academic capacity and with partners in a public capacity.
