Water lilies evoke nymphs, mythological creatures that inhabit springs and rivers. This aquatic plant develops from a rhizome, rooted up to 2 m under water. After flowering and fertilization, the pedicel rolls up, which makes the flower dive under water where the fruit will develop. This plant can accumulate pollutants released in the water or accumulated in the sediments.
