Pistia stratiotes, commonly called water lettuce, is an aquatic purifying plant. It reproduces very quickly by vegetative multiplication, by throwing around it stolons (stems) at the end of which appear new small plants. It can thus completely obstruct rivers or lakes and make them impassable for navigation.
